Depression has a tendency on people to speak very low of themselves and not want to do mostly anything with their life. Depression can be treated with medication and therapy. Doctors or therapists will suggest being on antidepressant medication to cure it. Medication doesn’t heal 100 percent; most believe it is the only way out.
It is important thing to understand that depression is a condition that affects mental ability. It doesn’t matter the age or the gender of the person, it is something that deserves full attention to heal. Depending on a medication is not the attention it deserves, there are other techniques to cope with depression. Other techniques that can work other than medication is spending quality time with people you love most, taking walks, listening to music, and exercising. Exercising is a big help; it reduces the symptoms because it increases brain chemicals called endorphins.
The main treatment people want to take is antidepressants, this treatment is to relieve the symptoms a person has, like feeling tired and exhausted. They are meant for a person to feel emotionally stable and help with a normal daily schedule.
Seeing a therapist can also heal depression. There isn’t a lot of understanding with depression, it affects differently on different people in many ways. People a lot of times have feeling of “Anger, worthlessness, and emptiness when they deal with depression.” Having a therapist can help a lot and possibly do better than medications. Psychologists are highly trained in mental health with a lot of experience in helping patients that deal with and still recover from depression. They contribute to your depression to help find ways to change and accept those situations a person is feeling or having. A person needs assist to themselves and develop skills and identify who they are and set goals for the future. When it comes to Depression it “Is common in adolescents around the age of 12-17 in the U.S. Most of the percentage are attending with antidepressant medication.” It can be more effective for children and adolescents. For those who are still young, they do have a major side effect that leads to suicide. Being depressed has increase of suicidal thoughts in young people. With that being said, parents prefer to go to a therapist first before beginning the medication. Studies show that the combination of antidepressants and medication and cognitive behavior therapy is highly effective in treating youth depression.
This illness “is not something you “snap out of” or is a sign of weakness.” A person may have experienced some type of trauma throughout that person’s life. Therapy helps patients learn to improve by expressing their emotions and solving their problems in a healthy way and building themselves back up. All medications can produce unwanted negative effects. Some can be a lot, or some can go away within time. Some people have more “side effects than others like anxiety, dizziness, feeling numb, and weight gain.” A doctor may realize these things and can change the dose or recommend a different medication that the person can tolerate. There are some serious side effects on the person’s brain. It is called serotonin syndrome it includes confusion, muscle twitching, and shivering.
As being on medication a person must be aware that as you start the medication it may cause a temporary worsening of the persons depression. It may have a “Dramatically increase of suicidal thoughts for people younger than twenty-five.” It is important if it keeps get worsen for more than a couple of weeks to contact medical assistance for a different dose or medication. Being on medication is something parents or adults should really have second thoughts about. It causes higher risk and a lot of side effects for the person and can last up to weeks to recover from.
Therapy should be one of the main sources you should consider first before going on medication. Therapy is the most trusted in parents and adults especially if your kid is dealing with depression or even yourself. Most of the time a person won’t recognize the therapist that the person will be talking to. It is a stranger that is willing to help the person heal and focus on getting better. Choosing the right therapist is important, making sure you have the right connection and relationship. It is completely okay if you change therapist often. There is nothing wrong with it, making sure it is the right therapist is important because the therapist will be your best friend for however long you need it.
There are a few cures for depression, but the main cures for it is therapy or for the person to be on antidepressants. People who take the medication tend to be more adults and have more side effects. The “side effects can last up for weeks and sometimes the persons body will be more sensitive towards the medication.” Therapy is one of the first choices parents choose to cure depression as well as the medication. Therapy will be the place where the person can trust and express how they feel. Building the trust and seeing the bright future the person has with their life problems. Therapy can be the first choice as well as mediation. These two options can be very helpful and a way to cure depression.
